Bev's experience of playing in a band

band marquee4

I have been playing in concert bands all my life since starting to play the flute at secondary school in London, firstly with my flute teachers recommendation at a local school band and then the London Schools Concert Band and after that the London Schools Symphony Orchestra. When I moved to Kent I didn't want to stop my playing and so I joined the Gravesend Borough Band who I have been playing with now for over 30 years.

In amateur bands you meet all sorts of people of different ages different walks of life but who have one thing in common they like to come together on a weekly basis to play music. Some are music teachers but many have completely unrelated professions. Some of our members haven't played for years but want to come back to it, some are new learners or just rusty players. We encourage new players to come along. Our band has a training section again with both youngsters in age and youngsters in outlook, so we cater for all abilities. Bands generally have a summer season where they do bandstand concerts on Sunday afternoons many of which are along the coast.  If you are interested in joining a local band heres a few links to bands all of which I am familiar with. You can look at concert dates and have a look at practice days etc

Happy Playing!
